About the PFAC

The Peel Food Action Council (PFAC) was established in 2019 to bring together stakeholders from across Peel’s food system to work collectively towards a just, sustainable and secure food system in Peel Region.

Our work is guided by the Peel Food Charter, a living document developed by the Peel Food Security Taskforce of the Peel Poverty Reduction Strategy Committee in 2017.

In 2020, the PFAC developed our inaugural Strategic Plan. This rallying call to action will help to guide us on this journey of driving positive change in all aspects of the food system in Peel!

Steering Committee

The PFAC is a member-driven organization. We strive to ensure our membership is reflective of the diversity of Peel Region and represents key interests and sectors from across the food system.

Our Steering Committee membership is representative of various perspectives on the food system, including:

Vision

A just, sustainable and secure food system for now and the future and the utilization of the Peel Food Charter as a guide for practices, polices and priorities in achieving food security to ensure we meet the needs and reflect the diversity of all who live and work in Peel.

Mandate

The mandate of the PFAC is to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups to move Peel’s food system towards the community’s vision, as described in the Peel Food Charter.

PFAC will serve as:

  • The gathering point for the community to discuss food issues
  • The voice of the community on food issues
  • An advocate regarding food issues including to various organizations and platforms (e.g. all levels of government)
  • Peel’s voice at relevant networks working to advance food policy

PFAC will remain independent of any one organization and will act in the above capacities in the interest of the general population.

Core Values

Our core values guide the way that we work together as a group and how we go about having a positive impact in our community.

we celebrate...

…and the diverse land, people and systems that support it in Peel and beyond.

… involved in bringing food to our table.
…on which we are privileged to live and produce food. We give our gratitude and respect to its First Peoples, while acknowledging the great amount of work still to be done towards truth and reconciliation and all our roles on that journey.
… that amplify the strengths that exist within our communities.
… for people of all genders, ethnicities, ages, races, religions, income levels, sexual orientations and abilities, and actively working in partnership with community to dismantle systems of oppression.
… and a food system that contributes to both.
The collective impact of working together and empowering each other to take part and take action.
… that values the importance and interdependence of people across the food system from production to processing to distribution to consumption to disposal.
To try, to persevere, to imagine, to have fun, to face our own failures and learn from them, and to support others to do the same.
The collective vision of a just, sustainable, and secure food system for now and the future that guides what we do.

Strategic Plan

At a time when collaboration is needed more than ever to address rising rates of food insecurity, we are excited to introduce the Peel Food Action Council’s inaugural strategic plan as a rallying call to action. The actions in this plan have emerged from a year of meaningful conversation with communities in Peel and are grounded in the belief that we all need to work together to build a more just, sustainable, and secure food system.

As we embark on this journey to bring about positive and meaningful change in our food system, we invite you to join us. Together, we can work towards building an equitable food system for everyone in Peel that is sustainable and resilient.
